Practical SME Experience
Case Study:
Payroll and employee administration in a busy manufacturing business

Before founding Everyday Payroll & HR Support, I gained hands-on experience supporting payroll, employee administration, finance administration and office processes within a growing manufacturing SME.
That experience gave me a practical understanding of how quickly payroll, HR documentation and employee records can become difficult to manage when a business is busy, expanding or relying on informal processes.

The business environment
The business needed straightforward systems that worked alongside day-to-day operations.
Payroll information had to be checked accurately, employee records kept up to date, and documents prepared for starters, leavers, leave, absence and other employee changes. Deadlines also had to be managed while responding to the wider administrative needs of the business.
As employee numbers increased, clear routines and dependable records became increasingly important.

The challenge
Payroll and employee administration often sit with owners, managers or office staff who are already responsible for several other areas of the business.
Without clear processes, information can become difficult to find, employee changes may be missed, and recurring deadlines can create unnecessary pressure.
The challenge was to keep essential administration organised without introducing complicated or overly corporate systems.

The support provided
My role included practical support with:
- Payroll routines and employee information
- Starters, leavers and employee changes
- Leave and absence records
- Employee documents and internal records
- Finance and general office administration
- Day-to-day administrative processes
The focus was on making important information easier to manage, locate and keep up to date.

The outcome
Clearer routines and organised records helped create a more manageable administrative process.
Payroll information was easier to review, employee documents were easier to access, and recurring tasks and deadlines were easier to track. This reduced pressure on the owner and office team and supported smoother day-to-day operations.

Acting Director, Manufacturing SME
How this experience shaped the service today
Everyday Payroll & HR Support was built around the kind of administration I saw become increasingly important as a growing business added more employees.
The service now supports Irish SMEs with defined payroll administration, HR documentation, starter and leaver administration, employee records and other agreed recurring administration processes.
The aim is to make the routine clearer, the documents easier to use and the next action easier to see, while the employer remains responsible for business and employment decisions.
What small employers told me during package research
These are shortened customer research responses from small Irish employers who reviewed the package structure. They are not verified client testimonials.
Straightforward payroll support
Small employers valued a focused service that reduced recurring payroll work without adding services they did not need.
Combined payroll and employee paperwork support
Employers said managing payroll and employee paperwork together could make the monthly administration burden more manageable.
Wider document and employee-file administration support
Growing employers valued broader support to keep recruitment documents, employee changes and records organised.
